Auditions

The Iliad, The Odyssey,
and ALL of Greek Mythology
in 99 minutes or less

by Jay Hopkins and John Hunter
Directed by Chris Polo

Audition Dates, Times: Auditions for The Iliad, the Odyssey, and All of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less will be held on Tuesday, August 3, and Wednesday, August 4, 2010, with callbacks on Thursday, August 5, 2010. Show dates are 10/1 to 10/16.

Cast consists of three men and two women playing a variety of roles, often in quick succession. Director Chris Polo is looking for actors with good improvisational skills, excellent timing, and the ability to create a variety of distinct characters, as well as people who can really cut loose and have fun onstage!

The Roles:

Man 1 (Zeus, Achilles, Old Nestor, Perseus, and Old Dog) is mature and masculine, presenting a feeling of authority and dignity.

Man 2 (Odysseus, Hera, and Hector) is impulsive and eager. Emotional rawness and passion are important in his characters.

Man 3 (Hermes, Man, Paris, Agamemnon, Diomedes, and Hercules) is the goofiest of the three men, almost cartoon-like. Natural comedic skills are a big plus.

Woman 1 (Athena, Demeter, Mrs. Henderson, Patroklos, and Oracle) is the more mature woman, with the ability to show wounded emotions and dignity.

Woman 2 (Aphrodite, Pandora, Helen of Troy, and Old King Priam) is more of an ingenue. Youthfulness is helpful, but she plays older, as well.

Particular crew needs for this show are a costumer to create togas that allow actors to move freely yet modestly(!), a prop master or mistress to put together a team to gather a large number of unusual props, techs to handle complex lighting and sound, and dressers for the actors. Other jobs include stage manager, stage crew, producer, head of house. Crew may come to the theater on audition nights to volunteer or email the director.

A Tuna Christmas

by Ed Howard, Joe Sears, and Jaston Williams
Directed by Patti Gatto

Audition Dates, Times: Auditions for A Tuna Christmas will be held on Monday, October 4, and Thursday, October 7, 2010.

Casting Needs: According to the script, two men play ALL 24 citizens of Texas's third smallest town, where the Lions' Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies.

Cast size and part assignments will be at the discretion of the director.  All  those with tons of  energy and no fear to improvise when the script gets tossed into the wings are invited to audition ...oh and you must be able to change costumes at the drop of a hat.  In addition, this show needs a good sized backstage crew so, if you're interested in working backstage, stop by auditions as well.

Man 1 may play Thurston Wheelis, Elmer Watkins, Bertha Bumiller, R.R. Snavely, Aunt Pearl Burras, Sheriff Givens, Ike Thompson, Inita Goodwin, Leonard Childers, Phoebe Burkhalter, and Joe Bob Lipsey.

Man 2 may play Arles Struvie, Didi Snavely, Petey Fisk, Jody Bumiller, Charlene Bumiller, Stanley Bumiller, Vera Carp, Dixie Deberry, Helen Bedd, Farley Burkhalter, and Garland Poteet.

Buffalo Gal

by A. R. Gurney
Directed by Kevin Smith

Audition Dates, Times: Tentatively, Buffalo Gal auditions will be held on January 9 - 12 (Sunday - Wednesday). Please plan to be there on the 12th and at least one other of those days.

Casting Needs: Amanda is the central character. She is a celebrated actress who is certainly no longer an ingenue. She is now being offered "grandmother" roles - something for which she is not quite ready. Susan Sullivan played this role in NY and, if you've seen her "Martha Rodgers" on TV's "Castle," you'll understand the role. She could be late 40s to somewhere in her 50s. Amanda needs to sing a brief duet with Dan.

James and Dan are contemporaries of Amanda. James was, for a time, in the same childhood acting class. He is a professional actor, but stayed in local and regional theater, where he has considerable respect. His most recent role was that of the title character in "Othello". Non-traditional casting aside, James must be played by an African-American actor.

Dan Robbins (formerly Rubin) is a dentist who, years ago, wrote a musical in which he and Amanda performed. His parents steered him into a respectable profession, but, having been bitten by the theater bug, he can't put it (or Amanda) behind him. Dan and Amanda sing a portion of a duet from his musical, so he should be able to carry a tune.

Jackie is a director who would like to move from regional theater to Broadway (or at least Off-Broadway). She sees this show, with a big-name actress, as her chance to achieve that dream. Jackie is probably in her 30s, experienced, but with a career ahead of her.

Roy, like Jackie, is an experienced theater professional, but seems content in regional theater. He is a very detail-oriented Stage Manager. He could be late 20s - 30s.

Debbie is a theater major, working as an intern with the company to gain practical experience. She is very eager and a fount of "insights" that she shares almost compulsively. She is about 20.

Don't Drink the Water

by Woody Allen
Directed by Jane Polo

Audition Dates, Times: Don't Drink the Water auditions will be held on Monday, March 14, and Tuesday, March 15, 2010. The director will call back finalists for principal roles on Thursday, March 17.

Casting Needs: Father Drobney – a priest who speaks with an accent. Very proper to the eye, but one can detect a faint glimmer of an eccentric in his eyes. He narrates the play as well as becomes one of the participants.

Ambassador Magee – hard nosed, dignified in his mid-fifties, a career-organization-team man.

Kilroy – a punctilious rat, always looking out for old number one…and will do anything to advance his foreign service career. 30s to 40s.

Axel Magee – mid- to late twenties, a pleasant well-meaning young man whose career in the foreign service has been a series of disasters. He is always trying but somehow everything always manages to go wrong for him.

Marion Hollander -  a 50ish frumpy housewife from New Jersey, who speaks her mind and tries her best to control an over-the-top husband and the world around her.

Walter Hollander – a loud, 50ish “ugly American” caterer from New Jersey, outspoken and opinunated, although unskilled in the ways of foreign affairs. Between he and Axel, they constitute the majority of the ineptness that fuels the comedy in the play.

Susan Hollander – a lovely young woman about 21 and the most normal and intelligent of the Hollander family.

Krojack – the menacing and vicious head of the Secret Police. Played to the extreme and therefore becomes a truly wonderful joke in his own right. Any age.

Burns – is an aide assigned to the Ambassador and Kilroy. He is that man that most people never seem to notice, yet he does his job with dedication. 30s to 40s

Chef – a temperamental eccentric che,f always in a tizzy. Any age.

Sultan of Bashir – a huge imposing desert chieftain in full robes with dark glasses and beard. He holds the fate of the Embassy in his hands. 40 to 60 years old.

Sultan’s First Wife – she is veiled throughout the play - a non-speaking role.

Kasner – Local dignitary with accent. Any age.

Countess Bordoni – Local dignitary with accent. Very proper and very discerning. Only three, one word lines in the play…but a great character role. Any age.
